This shade is a celebration of Harry Clarke's beautiful, ethereal illustration for Hans Christian Anderson's "The Elf Hill".
This is truly a conversation starter, a maximalist's dream, and a special shade that holds its own during the day, but leaps into magical life with light.
I printed his exceptional work onto silk, and stitched it into the centre of this beautiful frame, with a dupion silk backing to protect it and better diffuse the light.
I sourced some stunning, delicate royal blue Chantilly french lace to pick up on the beautiful royal blue colour detail in the dress of the lady in green, and overlaid this on onto hand-dyed dupion silk in a lovely pale green, to match the moon in the illustration.
I dyed the rest of the silks, fringing and chiffon in shades of purple to pick up on the purples in the illustration, and then created a pleated effect in the top panel.
On the sides of this frame, I dip-dyed silk in a sort of gradient from green to purple and back to green, and overlaid it with a gorgeous bronze floral sequinned lace which picks up the light beautifully.
This one glows in a beautiful bluish purple, and looks great with a cool bulb (always choose LED bulbs to protect your silk shade!).
